Martin Scorsese's narrative films, from Mean Streets (1973) to Killers of the Flower Moon (2023), have established him as one of cinema's great auteurs. He is lauded for his formal mastery, intellectual rigor, and the breadth of his thematic concerns. These films have been the subject of innumerable journalistic and scholarly studies. But less attention has been paid to Scorsese's documentaries.
